Abwaab Buys Eduact in Second MENA Edtech Deal of 2026

Abwaab Buys Eduact in Second MENA Edtech Deal of 2026

The Jordan-based e-learning platform is absorbing an Egyptian SaaS tool built for independent tutors, its second acquisition since January. Neither the price nor any new capital behind the buying spree has been disclosed.

Jordan's Abwaab has acquired Cairo-based Eduact, a SaaS platform for independent teachers and learning centres, for an undisclosed sum — its second acquisition of 2026 after January's Apex Education deal. Deal terms are unconfirmed, and no new Abwaab funding round has been publicly disclosed since its $20 million 2021 Series A financed the current buying spree.

Abwaab, a Jordan-based edtech startup, has acquired Eduact, an Egyptian SaaS platform serving independent teachers and private learning centres, for an undisclosed sum, according to a report from regional outlet Wamda. The deal is Abwaab's second acquisition in 2026, following its purchase of Apex Education in January, and extends a curriculum-content platform into the software layer that runs offline tutoring businesses — the part of MENA's education market that operates largely outside formal school systems.

The bet: buying distribution instead of building it

Abwaab's stated rationale, per co-founder and chief executive Hamdi Tabbaa, is that fixing Arab-world education is not a single-company build: "it's about finding the best teams solving real problems on the ground and building with them," he said, as quoted by Wamda. Read plainly, the bet is that Eduact's existing base of independent teachers and learning centres is worth more to Abwaab than replicating that tooling in-house — a buy-versus-build call that trades cash or equity for time-to-market in Egypt, a market Abwaab already serves.

What's confirmed, and what's still a placeholder

Confirmed: Eduact was founded in 2020 in Egypt by Adham Hamed and Ali Hisham, and its platform handles content, grading, payments and workflow management spanning online and offline instruction, per Wamda's report. Unconfirmed: the purchase price, whether the deal is cash, stock or a mix, and any revenue or user figures for either company. Wamda's account — the only public report of the transaction found at publication — carries no deal terms, and no separate investor statement or filing has surfaced to corroborate a valuation.

A second deal without a visible new round behind it

Abwaab's own capital history is public and dated: a $5.1 million seed round in March 2021, followed by a $20 million Series A in November 2021 led by BECO Capital with 4DX Ventures, GSV Ventures and Watar Partners, per contemporaneous Wamda and MAGNiTT coverage — a combined $27.5 million disclosed to date. No subsequent Abwaab funding round has been publicly reported since. Two acquisitions in under nine months, on a treasury last topped up almost five years ago, reads as either disciplined capital allocation or a company due to disclose new capital — the public record does not yet say which.

The verdict

Take the acquisition at face value: Abwaab is consolidating MENA's fragmented private-tutoring software layer, and Eduact's team and product give it a foothold in Egypt's offline-education economy that would otherwise take years to build. But treat the deal size, and the balance sheet funding it, as unconfirmed until Abwaab or Eduact discloses terms — a pattern of undisclosed-amount acquisitions from a startup with no recently disclosed round is a story half told, not a red flag on its own.

How much did Abwaab pay for Eduact?
Undisclosed. Wamda's report of the acquisition, the only public account found, does not state a purchase price or deal structure.
What does Eduact do?
Eduact runs a SaaS platform that lets independent teachers and learning centres in Egypt manage content, grading, payments and workflows across online and offline instruction; it was founded in 2020 by Adham Hamed and Ali Hisham.
Has Abwaab raised new funding to pay for its 2026 acquisitions?
Not according to the public record as of this report. Abwaab's last disclosed round is a $20 million Series A from November 2021, led by BECO Capital.
