Four Companies Took Nearly 43% of Europe's Q3 Funding
Tech.eu counted €27.8B in Q3 and over €1.5B last week. Four companies account for much of the quarter, while the long tail is small.
Europe's €27.8 billion third quarter was concentrated, not broad. By the desk's arithmetic from Tech.eu's figures, four companies, Mistral AI, Nscale, Helsing and Quantum Systems, raised about €11.9 billion, roughly 43% of the total. Last week's tail looked different: mostly sub-€10 million rounds, so headline totals say little about typical founders.
Traction Desk · 4 min read- Tech.eu's Q3 2026 data shows €27.8 billion across 732 deals, up 32.4% from €21 billion in Q3 2025 and more than two and a half times Q3 2024's €11 billion.
- Five rounds above €1 billion went to four companies: Mistral AI, Nscale, Helsing and Quantum Systems. The desk's sum of their reported figures is about €11.9 billion, roughly 43% of the quarter.
- The UK, Germany and France drew nearly three-quarters of Q3 capital, and AI plus cloud took about 47%, per Tech.eu.
- Most rounds in last week's recap are under about €10 million, and the recap gives no terms for any of its four exits.
- The recap's own list conflicts with its linked headlines on several amounts, so small-round figures deserve caution.
Europe's venture totals are large, but the useful question is who received the money. Tech.eu says it tracked "more than 65 tech funding deals worth over €1.5 billion" last week, days after its Q3 2026 report put the quarter at €27.8 billion. The Q3 data shows how top-heavy that sum is: a handful of companies account for a large share. For founders raising in the UK, Nordics or elsewhere, the headline total is a weak guide to the round they can expect.
Four companies carried the quarter
Tech.eu's Q3 report lists five rounds above €1 billion across four companies. Mistral AI raised €3 billion, Helsing €1.58 billion and Quantum Systems €1.05 billion. Nscale had rounds of about €2.95 billion and €2.59 billion plus a €787 million deal in July, about €6.3 billion in total. Adding these gives roughly €11.9 billion, about 43% of the €27.8 billion. That sum is the desk's arithmetic, not a Tech.eu figure.
Three countries and two sectors dominate
Tech.eu reports the UK drew almost €12 billion across 188 deals, about 43% of the total. Germany took about €4.9 billion across 114 deals and France €4.0 billion across 49. Together the three attracted nearly three-quarters of Q3 capital. By sector, AI took €6.7 billion and cloud €6.4 billion, more than €13 billion combined, about 47%. The report gives no methodology beyond "according to our data," so these are one tracker's tallies.
The week's long tail is small
Last week's recap leads with Legora, a Swedish company listed at $550 million and an $8.8 billion valuation, and Pigment at £250 million led by Scaleup Europe Fund. Below them, most of the sixty-odd entries are under about €10 million, many pre-seed or seed, and several amounts are undisclosed. The valuations come from the recap alone. The desk has not seen company filings, so treat them as reported, not confirmed.
Not every figure is equity, and some are shaky
The recap lists iwoca's €185 million as a credit line and Siloton's €9.98 million as an Innovate UK contract, neither of which is an equity round. The Q3 report names Innovate UK the most active investor among more than 2,630. The recap also notes conflicts between its list and linked headlines: Coherence Quantum appears as €2.78 million but its link implies €278 million, and Ganiga as €2.5 million versus €25 million. Verify small-round figures before relying on them.
Exits are named but unpriced
The recap names four exits: Workflex acquiring rhome, Provinzial acquiring moneymeets, Standard Chartered acquiring Zodia Custody, and Omnidocs acquiring WoodWing. It gives no amounts or valuations for any of them. Against more than 65 funding deals in one week, that leaves no way to judge returns on the capital being deployed. The funding-to-exit ratio is the number to watch, and these items do not supply it.
Verdict: the quarter's growth is real in Tech.eu's data, but it reflects a few very large rounds in a few countries and two sectors. It is not evidence of a broad improvement for the typical founder. Until exit terms and revenue data appear, read €27.8 billion as capital concentrated in a few companies, and benchmark your own round against the long tail of small deals instead.
